Key Stage 1 Reading Support

Dear Key Stage 1 parents and carers ,

During this period of home learning, we are aware that one of the challenges faced by families is access to books at the relevant reading level. At this point, it is important to stress that reading even familiar books is valuable practice for your child.

In an effort to maintain social distancing, we would like to recommend the Oxford Owl website where your child can access free eBooks at their reading level.

Once you have signed up to Oxford Owl, you will receive a confirmation email. Follow the link on this email to activate your account.

To access the free e-books:

· First, click on the eBooks icon at the top of the screen.

· Then, click on the icon which says ‘eBooks library’

· Next, click on ‘Level’ and select ‘Book band’ from the drop down menu to find your child’s book band colour. You will then have access to a number of eBooks at your child’s reading level.

You should be able to find your child’s reading book band in their reading diary. If you can’t find this information, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher using their email address.

If you have any problems or feedback regarding reading at home, please do not hesitate to contact us;

Thank you for your continued support,

Ms Parsons and Miss Lyons
